Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cosmetic Tattooing?
Also known as Semi Permanent Makeup or Micropigmentation, cosmetic tattooing is the placement of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. This procedure naturally enhances the appearance of brows, eyes, and lips.
Does Cosmetic Tattooing Hurt?
Generally not. In some cases, some people fall asleep. Each individual has a different pain threshold. We use specialised skin anesthetics to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Do you need to shave/wax your existing eyebrow hair?
This question I get asked frequently, and no not at all. We may need to tidy the brow area to create the best brow design for you, but not remove the entire brow hair.
How long does the procedure take?
This depends on the area treated.
Eyebrows 2 1/2 hours, Eyeliner 2 hours and Lips 2 1/2 hours.
What kind of pigments and needles do you use?
Strict hygiene and sterile environment guidelines are followed as required by Queensland legislation l. All devices involved in the procedure are disposable “single use only”.
The pigments used are an iron oxide base, a safe non-reactive substance. All pigments are pre-sterilised during the manufacturing process.
How long does cosmetic tattooing last?
Most tattoos can last up to 1-3 years depending on factors such as age, exposure to sun, medications, facial products containing strong exfoliation, and skin bleaching agents. To maintain the colour intensity of your enhancement you can return for a retouch visit every 12 months.
How are the procedures performed?
A pen-like digital machine is used to perform the procedure. The technician will use a needle to deposit the pigment into the top layer of the skin.
Is it safe?
In Queensland, we practice and enforce infection control practices and sterilisation guidelines. All technicians must hold a skin penetration license.
What is a “touch up”?
A touch-up is needed to ensure correct and full pigment retention within your skin. This creates the perfect finished look for you. This visit is where we can make any minor shape or colour adjustments. A touch-up visit is required 4-6 weeks after the first initial appointment.
How will it look after the procedure?
The colour will appear 20-30% darker and stronger within the first few days. Slight swelling may also appear.
Colours will lighten and soften after 3-10 days. If the colour fades a lot this is ok. After 4 weeks you will get a more representative colour, and this is why you need to wait 4 weeks at least for your retouch perfection visit.
