Caring for your new cosmetic tattoo

Now that you’ve decided to have a cosmetic tattoo procedure to enhance your natural beauty at Lilac Rose, you’re well on the way to increased confidence and spending less time in front of the mirror in the morning. It’s important to look after your skin after you’ve had the procedure done to get the best results, and we often get a lot of questions about it. So, we’ve sat down with our leading lady Lauren Zeidler to ask her all about what to do and what to expect after your brow procedure.

What can I expect the healing process to be like?
After the brow tattoo is complete, you will need to wipe over the brows with a damp cotton pad every half-hour for three hours. This will remove any lymph fluid that is appearing on the skin. If this isn’t removed it may create a crust and remove the pigment in that area. A healing cream is to be applied for the next five days and no wetting the brows for five days.

How long does it take for a cosmetic tattoo to fully heal?
Brows will take four weeks to completely heal. At seven to 10 days, the colour of the brow will be settling into the skin and the colour will have faded into that nice, natural colour that suits your skin tone.

How do I look after the cosmetic tattoo when it's fresh?
The brows will appear darker in colour the first few days but fade to a nice soft, natural look. Don’t panic! Trust the process as the colour heals in the skin over the next seven to 10 days. Even though they may appear darker, there’s no need to hide. You’ll be fine to continue you normal day-to-day routine.

My tattoo is scabbing–is that normal?
Scabbing and dryness can occur, normally on day four or five as the brow starts to heal. This is normal. Don’t pick any dry or flaky areas as this may pull away pigment.

Can I go to the gym after having the procedure?
Gym and exercise are okay, but try to avoid excessive sweating. A good tip if going to the gym is place a barrier cream over the top of the brows for protection.

And what about swimming and bathing?
You can’t swim after you get your brows done, as you cannot wet them for five days. Head above the water is fine though. Same if you need to shower and wash your hair. Try to wash hair the day before you come in.

Is there anything else that’s important to know?
Brows are semi permanent and will fade in colour over time. Try to avoid sun, facial creams, chemical peels, and laser around the brow area as these may fade the brows. At 12 to 18 months we do recommend a colour refresh appointment.

If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to ask at the time of your appointment or give Lauren a call on 0430 943 022.
